Naïve unframed oil on canvas depicting Rose Cottage, Strelley Lane, Notts Signed and dated 1898: ‘W Plage 1898.’ A rustic scene illustrating, perhaps, a trackside Gamekeeper’s lodge beside a gated track – complete with a black dog approaching the cottage and birds aloft within atmospheric skies. The inner edge of the frame onto which the canvas is attached is visible. Original hanging ring. Two slight imperfections exist to the left of the chimney and above the further gatepost (see honest repair on reverse image), but these do not detract from the delightful bucolic ambiance of the painting.
