Portable Antique French World War 1 Candle Lantern
This is a rare French piece from the ‘Great War’ with the maker’s name still visible to the back. Constructed from sheet iron this three sided lantern has two glazed windows, one on a clasp-fastening hinged door, lidded ventilation to the lid and carrying loop. The piece is in virtually unrestored condition (unsurprisingly the glass panels are a later replacement) with candle holder intact, original black paint and, consequently, minimal corrosion to the metal. As shown, the lantern folds down to aid portability. An evocative example of period rustic lighting.
